Thai Yoga Massage
Ancient Thai massage was developed over 2,500 years ago by Jivaka Komarabhācca, a renowned healer in Buddhist tradition. It is said he was also Buddha’s friend and personal physician.
It is an old powerful and unique therapeutic healing art form steeply rooted in Indian Ayurvedic Medicine, Yoga and Buddhist meditation. It is a unique style of massage based in the principles of compassion. It consists of many techniques such as s acupressure, Indian Ayurvedic principles, reflexology, energy line work, stretching and assisted yoga postures.
Thai massage sees and treats the human being as ever changing physical, mental, emotional and spiritual interweaving fields of energy. The aim is to restore and balance a person using a combination of techniques, postures, and adjustments.
While posture, breathing, digestion, circulation and flexibility are improved, muscles are stretched, organs are restored and the CNS is calmed through the techniques and adjustments, it is the state of Metta where the practitioner vibrates the frequencies of being centred, still, peaceful and receptive that amplifies the benefits to the body and brings a sense of rejuvenation and peace to both the client and the practitioner. Because of this Thai yoga has never been seen as just massage, but also a spiritual practice. This sacred dance to restore balance and peace to the body, mind and spirit is what makes this massage powerful, therapeutic and a work of art.
What to Expect
The work is done on a mat on the floor traditionally, or on a massage table with the client in comfortable clothing.
During a session, in a meditative state, I gracefully guide you through a variety of yoga-like postures that can be safely modified to be as gentle or intense to suit your needs, using my hands, forearms, elbows, knees, and feet to compress and palpate the muscles of the body. You could be lying on your back (supine), stomach (prone), side-lying, inverted or seated. Throughout the treatment, rhythmic rocking and targeted acupressure techniques are used to replenish energy stores and lull you into a blissful state of relaxation.
How Does Thai Yoga Massage Differ From Regular Massage Therapy?
Traditional Thai Yoga Massage focuses on the energy of the body rather than the physical body (In Western style massage therapy); instead of kneading muscles, the technique focuses on:
Energy points
Stretching
Yoga exercises
Compressions
Rhythmic rocking
